An Update on the Restoration of Long Beach Medical Center Services
Five months after superstorm Sandy caused significant flood damage, Long Beach Medical Center's inpatient services remain closed; however, restoration work is progressing. The following information offers an update on our progress to date, as well as our anticipated timeline for reopening:
Emergency Care
Until Long Beach Medical Center completes restoration of its emergency department and hospital operations, residents experiencing a medical emergency should call 911 and will be transported by ambulance off of Long Beach Island to other hospitals.
The Family Care Center (FCC) 516-544-2351
The Family Care Center has reopened in its new location at 761 Franklin Boulevard in Long Beach. The FCC offers high quality medical care to individuals and families who do not have health insurance or who are under-insured. Their physicians focus on wellness and prevention of chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity as well as common illnesses. Appointments can be made by calling the Family Care Center at (516) 544-2351 and walk-ins are also welcome. In addition to offering a modest fee for individuals without insurance, the FCC accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Affinity and HealthFirst.
Long Beach Group Practice 516-544-2100
The Medical Center’s faculty practice, Long Beach Group Practice, has reopened and is now located at 206 West Park Ave. in Long Beach. Staffed by Internal Medicine and Family Medicine physicians, they provide primary medical care with a holistic approach. Practice members includes Cheryl Carrao, D.O.; Bernadette Riley, D.O.; Paula Ryo, D.O.; and Dov Statfeld, M.D.. For an appointment, please call 544-2100.
The Certified Home Care Agency and Long Term Home Health Programs 516- 897-1300
Long Beach Medical Center’s certified Home Health Care Agency has remained open and continues providing healthcare services in the home setting. For information or to request health services at home, please call 897-1300.
The Counseling Center 516-415-7210
Our Counseling Center (mental health services) has reopened in a temporary location at 950 Church Street in Baldwin, NY. Our licensed mental health professionals offer counseling services and medication management in a confidential setting. Alcohol/Substance Abuse
We are currently working with State agencies to relocate our FACTS program (Family Alcoho and Chemical-dependency Treatment Services) and Methadone Maintenance Program to auxiliary offices, which we should be able to announce shortly.

Long Beach Medical Center has been selected as a participant in Nassau County’s Project Hope program to provide support and crisis management services in the Long Beach community. Trained teams, led by clinical professionals, will be reaching out to community organizations, businesses and residents to assist them with their the emotional distress many are feeling as they navigate the recovery process . Project Hope Support Groups/Workshops
Project Hope Counselors from Long Beach Medical Center and the South Shore Association for Independent Living, Inc (SAIL) have collaborated to offer ongoing support groups and workshops designed toindividuals affected by Hurricane Sandy. The groups will meet:

The Komanoff Center for Geriatric & Rehabilitative Medicine
On January 28, 2013, The Komanoff Center for Geriatric & Rehabilitative Medicine welcomed home 120 nursing home residents who had been evacuated to other facilities in anticipation of the superstorm. We also welcomed 200 employees back to care for the returning residents. The Komanoff Center offers short-term restorative care, long-term care and inpatient hospice care. The Hospital
The hospital's basement, which was flooded with ten feet of water, is undergoing restoration of its boilers, mechanical and electrical distributions systems, fire alarm system, communications, food services, and laundry services. Engineers are confident that essential systems will be back online by March, which aligns with a reopening in late April, 2013.
