Patient Letters for Diabetes Education Center

Rachel,
It’s been difficult for me to make your (support) meetings but I wanted to tell you how grateful I am for your training in the carb counting method and exercise.  I have lost 53 pounds in 12 months; my doctor is amazed (as am I) and he has cut my meds by fifty percent!    I feel better than I have in years and tell anyone I meet to get educated and start to move.  Thanks again for your help.

Patient Letters for ED Services

We are 80-something parents.  Kris is a loving 41 year old down syndrome. Your care and love for Kris was outstanding.  Keep up the good work. Everyone was wonderful. Very caring, concerned, friendly and professional staff.  Minimal wait time was also a great bonus.
- A.V., Long Beach, NY

The staff was wonderful.  Jared is 12.  As his mom, I was there  and he received excellent care.  He was also given lunch with a movie.  Everyone was professional, caring and terrific!  I hope we’re not in need again, but if I am, I know I or my children will get attention and the best care.  Thank you.
- J.K., Katonah, NY

Thank you so much!  What a great, easy, fast, clean hospital emergency visit!  The staff was fabulous.
- J.M., Bayside, NY

The emergency room nurses, doctors and other staff were incredibly attentive and empathetic.  I was pleased with the care I received when I went upstairs, as well.  Staff was responsive and courteous not only to me, but also to my husband and our friend.  Everyone explained to me sufficiently what was being done, and what complications or problems needed to be addressed.
- L.W., Long Beach, NY

I would like to say on Aug 23 @ 9:45 PM I drove my son, who is 22 months old and was not breathing, to the ER.  While driving him there, I gave him rescue breaths. What a relief to get him to the ER so close to our home and then to watch the caring nurses, doctor and security guard revive him and comfort him.    Thank You.
- T.G., Lido Beach, NY

I reside in Williston Park, NY and am a practicing attorney in Nassau County of more than fifty (50) years.  Part of my practice involves personal injury actions and as a result I am somewhat familiar with Nassau County Hospitals.  I am writing this letter to relate to you my observations of the staff of your Emergency Room on Monday, February 16, 20009.

I have a very dear Lady friend who resides in Long Beach.  The following is a very brief synopsis of her medical history from February 2007 to February 17, 2009.  In February, 2007, she experienced a hemorrhagic stroke requiring a craniotomy.  In September 2007, after surviving the stroke, she experienced a seizure causing her to have a one care accident.  One of the results of the accident was the aggravation of a lumbar fusion performed in 2005.  Following numerous tests and examinations she underwent a second spinal fusion on August 6, 2008.

After the second fusion, she experienced severe and constant pain.  She was under the care of a pain management physician, a neurologist and an orthopedic surgeon.  She was receiving physical therapy regularly but the pain persisted.  On February 16, 2009, during one of her episodes of unrelenting pain, she experienced some symptoms of a seizure.  At her request, I drove to the Emergency Room of your hospital.  She was questioned by an experienced and capable Triage nurse.  The Emergency Room was crowded with more patients than available facilities to handle them.  There was one physician available to examine and treat all of the patients, Dr. Dawn Williamson.

Dr. Williamson is absolutely remarkable.  She examined and treated or ordered required treatment of every single patient.  She went from one to the next and sometimes actually handled two patients at the same time.  All of the staff helping her did not require specific orders or instructions but are so well trained that they basically knew what to do without being told.

MY Lady friend was given outstanding care by all who attended her and that made her comfortable and confident during her one day an overnight stay.

It was extremely impressive to observe the Emergency Room personnel in action and I feel compelled to bring it to your attention.

Very truly yours,
- R.J., Williston Park, NY

Patient Letters about Hospital

Would definitely recommend your hospital to family and friends.  We live in Baldwin and will only use Long Beach hospital. Sometimes the staff knew what I wanted before I did!  Overall the experience was exceptional.  Each employee (from admitting thru x-ray/radiology) was professional and made me feel well taken care of.  They all should be congratulated!

My family and friends always request Long Beach Medical Center.  Everyone, the staff and help are so very attentive, caring and compassionate.  You are treated as a person and not a number, and that means so much to us all.  Long Beach Hospital is No.1 and we are all proud, and blessed, it’s in our city.
- N.C., Long Beach

The staff was excellent and very efficient.  The referral to Dr. Benjamin Uh couldn’t have been better.  Thank you!  I come from Far Rockaway because I don’t want to go anywhere else for care!

Everyone was very nice and polite.  Most of the time they anticipated my needs for meds and offered them before I needed to ask.  Drs. Joel Benowitz and Larry Sirota were without a doubt two of the most compassionate, caring patient, wonderful doctors!!  I have been a patient at other Long Island hospitals but by far, Long Beach Medical Center provided the best care.

- S.R., Long Beach, NY

Long Beach Medical Center is and always was an attentive, caring, competent facility.  I had my three children there and always enjoyed my stays and was cared for very well.  It is an attentive hospital where patients are not lost in a huge amount of staff and people and fancy surroundings, but given quality care and comfortable surroundings.  You also have a wonderful, competent, caring staff of doctors.
- E.C., Long Beach, NY

Long Beach Hospital is always recommended by me for their immediate and warm attendance to their patients.   Thank you!

In my seventy-six years I have been in several hospitals.  You are the very best!  Keep up the excellent work.

I received excellent care.  I think every real estate agent sho sells a home in Long Beach should emphasize we have a beach, good school system, but best of all we have our own Hospital!
- V.O., Long Beach, NY

Over the 32 years I have lived here, Long Beach Medical Center has taken good care of me and my husband on several occasions in a very satisfactory manner as outpatients as well as inpatients.  I am glad the Hospital is here.

Patient Letters from the Komanoff Center

My father was a patient in the Long Beach Medical Center ER, the Hospital, and the Rehabilitation facility prior to his unexpected death.

While we are deeply saddened by his passing, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the extraordinary level of care and concern shown to both my father and our entire family by the hospital administrators.  Betsey Jeasoma, the social worker who took all my calls and walked me through the answers to all my questions, and Rosale Valinoti, who helped me so willingly with all manner of things concerning my Dad and recommended who else I should consult for each matter were, as was everyone in the Administrative office, patient, kind, caring and very willing to make sure my Dad got the medical care he needed.

The E.R. Department was exceptional in its willingness to make sure my Dad was safe and warm while they cared for him.  It was a gift to be able to leave the ER knowing that both my Dad’s medical and emotional needs were being take care of.  From the ER he went into the Hospital for a stay.  Every one of the nurses in the hospital facility was more than willing to help my Dad despite his agitation at times.  They lifted his spirits and gave me (his caretaker) the kindness and support I needed.

The last stop was Long Beach Rehabilitation Unit where I was completely amazed by how the nurses and staff, in spite of the difficulty of dealing with the elderly, were able to smile and bring joy and laughter to their patients.  The care was flawless and if I asked for anything they responded as quickly as they could and always with a wonderful attitude.

I will always be grateful to you and your staff for giving me the peace of mind to know we all did the best we could.

My Dad has been hospitalized a number of times at such well-known institutions.  It is Long Beach Hospital, however, that stands out for its commitment to making each elderly patient feel like he alone is of prime importance and that meeting his needs is always job number one.

Dr. Edward Kleiner, my Dad’s primary care physician, was the first doctor I had ever met who truly respected, admired and cherished the elderly.  He and my Dad had a special relationship and Dr. Kleiner was always patient and willing to listen to my father’s stories with no indication that he had heard them many times before.  He always showed my Dad respect and a caring and kindness that one would expect only from a family member.  He is a wonderful and brilliant doctor who makes the world a better place.

Dr. Paul Schulster was recommended by Dr. Kleiner to take care of my Dad while he was in your facility.  Id didn’t surprise me that Dr. Schulster has many of the same fine qualities as Dr. Kleiner.  His care and attention to, and patients with, my Dad (not to mention all of my calls that he so quickly returned) were extraordinary.  My Dad was fortunate indeed, as was my entire family, to have two such wonderful doctors providing not only superb medical care but vast quantities of emotional support for all.

You have much to be proud of, Mr. Conway.  You are a wonderful administrator and your sunny disposition and always present smile and willingness to listen to one’s needs make it very apparent how much you care about what you do.

I feel blessed to have had my Dad spend his last weeks in your hands and I will forever be grateful for the wonderful care he received.  Thank you again from my entire family for the kindness and comfort you and your staff provided to all of us.

Patient Letters from the Mammography Center

Dear Mrs. Charlotte Osterland:

On behalf of our whole family I want to thank you for all the effort you put into Long Beach Hospital. I recently had a mammogram at the hospital and it was the most comfortable I have ever had.  The staff in that area, as in the rest of the hospital, were very special. I feel an announcement of the mammography department and other wonderful services should be sent to each home so that people can find out what we have in Long Beach.

Patient Letters about Nursing Staff

I came to the ER because I was attacked by a dog.  The nurses were very attentive and even covered the mirror in the bathroom so I didn’t see the severity of the bite (which was on my face).  They were quick to call a plastic surgeon and take care of he pain, as well.  I have since used the ER for my boyfriend who required open heart surgery.  That trip saved his life!  Thank you.
- K.G., Long Beach, NY

Patient Letters about Rehabilitation Services

I am grateful to the staff of the Acute Rehab Unit, where I spent nine days after my total knee replacement.  I feel the care, attention and therapy I received there helped me tremendously in my recovery.  I was able to care for myself (almost) when I was discharged.
- S. B., Long Beach, NY

We were very beyond pleased with the level of patient care received here.  People really go above and beyond to show they care.  The halls and rooms are constantly being cleaned, physical therapists are helping patients and the nurses and doctors are available to speak with us.  A really well fun facility with an excellent staff – what more could we ask for.   Thank you!

- E.B., Long Beach, NY

Patient Letter about Acute Rehab Center

I write to express my sincere gratitude to the Acute Rehab Center at Long Beach Medical Center who recently assisted myself and my mother following back surgery.  I would like to take this opportunity to let you know how very much I appreciate the hard work and dedicated efforts put forth by the doctors, nurses, and aides that played a great role in the our rehabilitation.

It is very apparent that the staff possesses the traits that enable them to do an outstanding job.  They displayed empathy and caring for myself and my mom, they handled all the aspects of care in a prompt and courteous manner, they also ensured that the lines of communication remained open between all doctors, nurses and aides to provide a smooth transition from surgery to rehabilitation.  All of these things were done with caring and kindness and I know that the dignity of myself and my mom remained the highest priority.

The staff displays traits that no amount of training or experience can instill.  These characteristics are inherent in some individuals and absent in others.  The Rehab Staff has that “special something” and I am thankful that we benefited from their experience.

Employees such as those in the Rehab should be held in much regard by colleagues, supervisors and clients.  I thought you should know how very much their work is appreciated.

Sincerely,
- J.M., Long Beach, NY

I was admitted for a bilateral mastectomy and cannot say enough words of praise and thanks to each and every staff member that I encountered.

I came to Long Beach because of my surgeon, Dr. Joel Benowitz, who has been taking care of me since early 2005.  In fact, he is the one who diagnosed my DCIS in September of 2009.  The lumpectomy was done at Long Beach Hospital at that time and radiation did follow.  After learning that I am BRCA positive the choice was made, and in no way easily, to have prophylactic bilateral mastectomy with reconstruction done by Dr. Larry Sirota.

My journey took me to places near and far.  I attended local support groups, became active in the double mastectomy group at Hewlett House.  I was a delegate to the first Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in Jerusalem, October of this year.  So my decisions have been made with much thought and education behind them.

When telling people where I was to have the surgery, I have heard comments, Judy, are you sure about Long Beach?  Aren’t you going to Winthrop?  My usual answer was that I trust my doctor.

I am writing to let you know how wonderful the staff at your hospital is.  I was treated with respect and kindness above the call of duty.  To Colleen and the staff at the pre-op, the nurses Dina, Abraham, James and Laura, the CMA’s Aretha, Dorothy, Elsie, Dolores and Jennifer; to the post-op nurses, interns and anyone whose name I forgot-thank you all for helping me through this!

My husband also wants to thank the volunteers, Renee and Fran, who made his wait in the surgical waiting room go by faster.
I was discharge don Monday, December 13th and now have the privilege to write you.

Sincerely,
- J.Z., North Bellmore, NY

Patient Letters for Orthopedic Surgery

I am compelled to write to you to tell you about my recent surgical experience at Long Beach Medical Center.  I had arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday, May 5th with Dr. Benjamin Uh.  The staff, from the nurses at the front desk (intake), pre-op, surgery and post-op were FANTASTIC, sensitive, caring, efficient professionals.

Unfortunately, I have had many, many surgeries in my life; in many different from NYC to New Rochelle; however my surgical visit in your facility was the most professional, humane, considerate surgery that I have ever experienced.

I have spoken highly of my surgical experience to friends and family and would have no reservations in recommending your hospital to anyone who has to undergo hospitalization.

Please give my heartfelt thanks, compliments and accolades to your staff for combining kindness and consideration along with professionalism.

Sincerest thanks,
- D.J., Kew Gardnes, NY
